Configuring an Order Kitchen Display

An Order Kitchen Display (Order KDS) will show your store's orders on a screen, which can then be bumped once all items in the order have been prepared. These can be useful for your kitchen's staff to verify the contents of an order before serving it to the customer. 

Go to the Manage > System tab in HUB (Direct Link), select your store from the dropdown, and select the 'KDS Config' option to reach the Kitchen Display Configuration menu

After selecting 'KDS Config', you will see a table of all of the current stations assigned as kitchen displays, as well as buttons to add new kitchen displays

(1) From this Menu, you can edit an existing Order Display by selecting the gear icon to the right of the KDS's name, or (2) you can add a new Order Display with the 'New Order Display' button at the top of the window.

• (3) Select the Trashcan icon to the right of a display to deactivate that station as a KDS and clear all of its settings.

Selecting the gear icon or 'New Order Display' will bring up the Order Display configuration window, which contains the following tabs:

(1) The General tab contains options for customizing the formatting and behavior of the Order Display, such as adjusting the text size, text color, or enabling/disabling the 'Order Up!' audio alert, while the (2) Display Categories and (3) Order Types tabs allow you to customize which items will actually appear on this Order Display

Selecting the 'General' tab will allow you to adjust all of the following settings on this Order Display:

• (1) The Computer Name dropdown allows you to select which station the kitchen display rules should apply to. This can be used to temporarily convert a regular station to a kitchen display, if needed.
  • After a Kitchen Display is set up, this usually does not need to be changed.
• (2) Text Size lets you choose the font size the Order Display will use.
  • Normal, Large, and Extra Large sizes are available.

• (3) Caution Minutes sets the time limit (in minutes) before an order's color tag will change to yellow.
  • This number should always be smaller than Warning Minutes (see below)
• (4) Warning Minutes sets the time limit (in minutes) before an order's color tag will change to red.
  • This number should always be larger than Caution Minutes (see above)
• (5) Recall Minutes sets the time limit (in minutes) for how long an order can be recalled after being bumped.
• Colors can be selected for each of the following order elements:
  • (6) Item Name - Color used for the name of the menu items on the order
  • (7) Note Color - Color used on any item note included alongside an item
  • (8) Preference Color - Color used for any preference member selected as part of a menu item
  • (9) Modifier Color - Color used for an item's modifiers
    • In addition to the standard modifier color, different colors can also be selected for specific sub-types of modifiers:
      • (10) NO Modifiers Color - Color used when a modifier is removed from an item
      • (11) Extra Modifiers Color - Color used when an item's modifier is set to 'Extra'
      • (12) PS Mods - Color used when an item includes a preselected modifier
        • Note: In order for the preselect to display, 'Display Preselect in Kitchen' must be enabled for that preselected modifier. See this page on the Modifiers subcategory of the Menu Editor for more information on this setting.
• (13) Active is the main setting that will enable/disable the kitchen display on a station.
  • If a Kitchen Display goes down for any reason, you can deactivate it by disabling this setting, and the display's other settings will remain intact for whenever you are able to get the kitchen display back online.
• (14) Prioritize Ready Orders will automatically move orders to the top of the Order Display whenever all of its items have been bumped from all Item Displays.
  • If this is Disabled, all orders will appear in the order they were sent unless a priority order type has been set (See below for more details)
• (15) Additional Display (Separate Stage) allows an additional Order Display to be used alongside this display for a two-stage order bumping setup.
  • In this setup, once an order is sent to the Order Display and gets bumped, the order will then appear on the Additional Order Display specified here.
  • When this setting is enabled, a new dropdown menu will appear to allow you to select the second station to be used as the Additional Order Display.
  • In order for orders to appear on the additional display, you must add a new stage event 'Send to Additional Display' to the stage after your 'Send to Kitchen Display' stage event is triggered.
• (16) Priority Order Type will select an order type whose orders will be prioritized over other orders that appear on this display.
  • Example: If the priority order type is set to Dine In, then Dine In orders will always appear at the top of this display, with all other orders following after.
• (17) Show Computer Name will add the station number the order was sent from to every order on the display.
• (18) Show Customer Info will add the customer's name and address to all orders on this display.
• (19) Show Delivery Zones adds the name of the delivery zone that the customer's address is located in to each order on the display.
• (20) Monitor Item Display will change the way orders display on the Order Display until all of the order's items have been bumped from the store's Item Display(s).
  • Orders will be greyed out when they first appear on the Order Display.
  • Once all items on the order have been bumped from all Item Displays, the order on the Order Display will activate and change to the standard display colors.
• (21) No Split Orders will ensure that each order on the Order Display is displayed in one column instead of an order being split between two columns.
  • If this is disabled, an order will be split into two parts if it is too large for the empty space at the bottom of a column. The second part will be displayed at the top of the next column to the right.
• (22) Display Previous Items will show all items assigned to this display on an order when a new item is sent, even if the order has already been bumped from the order display before.
  • When a new item is added to an order and sent, the new item will have a note specifying that it is a new addition to the order
  • In the below example image, the Large Pepperoni Pizza was displayed and bumped from the order display before a Small Veggie Pizza was added. The order then returned to the order display with the new item tag over the newly added item.

• (23) Display Additional Items will include all items on orders that appear on this display, even if the item's display category is not selected to appear on this display.
  • (24) Additional Items Gray will print these additional items in a grey font to separate them from the items in display categories assigned to the Order Display. 
  • In the following example image, the order display is set to display only 'Salad' category items. With 'Display Additional Items' and 'Additional Items Gray' enabled, the additional 'Pizza' item on the order appears in grey.

• (25) Max Orders allows you to choose how many orders can be displayed at one time before additional orders are queued to display after current orders get bumped.
  • This can be set to any number between 9 and 25.
• (26) Use Audio Alert will play a short audio clip whenever a new order appears on a previously empty Order Display
  • The default clip is an 'Order Up!' sound effect, but can be changed to any other desired sound by replacing the file at C:\Revention\KDSAlert.wav
    • For assistance changing the Audio Alert, reach out to HungerRush Support with a .wav file of your desired sound.
• (27) Display Default Preferences determines whether an item's preference is shown if the preference is left at its default.
  • If Disabled, only manually selected preference choices will appear on this Order Display.

• (28) Display Table Number allows you to choose whether a table number is listed alongside each order. This will take the place of the employee name that sent the order
   

  

  • By default, this replaces the name of the logged-in employee that sent the order
  • (29) Table # Replaces Order Number will instead remove the order number and show the table number in that position, leaving the employee name section as it would be with 'Display Table Number' disabled.
• (30) Use Original Time starts the order timer (timer shown at the top of an order on the KDS) at the time the order was originally sent.
  • If this is disabled, the order timer on the Order Display will start only after all items on the order have been bumped from all Item Displays.
• (31) Filter by Order Type allows you to restrict this Order Display to only show items from specific order types.
  • Once enabled, a new 'Order Types' tab will appear at the top of the Order Display settings window. This tab allows you to select which order types will appear on this Display.

• (32) Use Mod Category will change the background color of modifiers based on the modifier category they have set in the menu editor.

• (33) Allow Auto Qty Pref Mbrs will auto-combine all identical preference members on an item into one line with a quantity number.
  • Example: If an item appears on the display with the same 'Fries' preference member selected for 3 different preference choices, there will only be one line with '3 Fries' listed instead of three separate 'Fries' preference member lines.
  • IMPORTANT NOTES:
    • This setting will only function if 'Auto Quantity Printing' is enabled at both the Menu and Group levels. 
    • This setting will only combine identical preference members on the same item. If the same preference member is selected once on two different items, it will be listed separately beside each item.
• (34) Show Recipe will show an item's recipe alongside it on the Order Display

Once you finish customizing the general settings for the Order Display, you must then select Display Categories that will appear on this display, and (optionally) Order Type Filtering to further restrict which orders will appear on this display.

(2) The Display Categories tab will allow you to select the Kitchen Print Categories that this Order Display will show when orders are sent.

• After selecting this tab, you will see all of your menu's Kitchen Print Categories broken into two columns:

• All categories on the right will be shown on the display, while the categories on the left will be hidden.
  • In the example image above, any item assigned to the categories 'Kitchen', 'Salad', or 'Desserts' would appear on this display.
• Kitchen Print Categories can be configured in the Kitchen Printers section of the Printer Configuration menu. See this article for more information on adding Kitchen Print Categories, or this article for info on adding/modifying the Kitchen Print Category on an item. 

(3) If 'Filter by Order Type' (setting 27, see section above) is enabled, a third tab will appear to allow you to customize which order types will appear on this Order Display.

• This functions identically to the display categories tab; order types on the right will have items displayed on the KDS, while order types on the left will be hidden.

• In the example image above, only Drive Thru orders would appear on this Order Display.

Once you have finished configuring the Order Display with your desired settings, press the 'Save' button at the bottom right to finalize your changes.

Note: After any changes to your kitchen display settings, you must restart the KDS that you adjusted the settings on. The KDS can be restarted by pressing the power button on the control box attached to this display (Typically mounted near the monitor on a wall)
