Kitchen Ticket Printers have many configuration options to suit your restaurant's needs. This page reviews the kitchen ticket settings available in the Printer Configuration menu in the HUB.

For more information on changing the formatting and/or content of your kitchen receipts, please see this article on the Printer Ticket Configuration settings.

All the images in this guide can be enlarged by clicking/touching on them.

First, log into the HungerRush Restaurant Management HUB, and navigate to the Manage > System tab (Direct link to this section)

Select your store from the dropdown, then select 'Printer Configuration' in the list at the left side of the page

At the top of this settings window, select the 'Kitchen Printers' tab to access the kitchen printer settings

(1) The table at the upper left shows all of your store's printers, with each active kitchen printer and its format listed.

(2) To adjust a kitchen printer, first select the gear icon to the right of the printer. This will highlight that printer and allow you to adjust all of the following options:

(2a) The 'Is Kitchen' box will toggle whether the selected printer is assigned as a Kitchen Printer

  • Note: The other settings on this page will not function unless this checkbox is enabled for the selected printer

(2b) The 'Format' dropdown allows you to select the desired ticket format used by this kitchen printer

(3) Once a printer is selected, the kitchen print categories assigned to that printer will appear in the bottom left table

  • (3a) To add/remove a print category from the selected printer, select the circle toggle in the middle column. A filled circle means the category will print, while an empty circle means the category will not print.
  • (3b) To delete a kitchen print category, use the Trashcan icon to the right of the print category
  • In order for items to print on a kitchen printer, they must be assigned a print category that is enabled for that printer. For more information on assigning print categories to menu items, see this page on our Menu Editor.

(4) To add a new Kitchen Print Category, input the desired name in the box in the middle of this window and (4a) select the green plus (+) button

(5) To save your changes to a printer, select the 'Save' icon to the right of that printer in the upper table.

You can also configure each of the following options for the selected printer:

  • (6) 'Do Not Sort Items' prevents the printer from using the automatic sort feature defined in the Menu Editor. Menu Items on a kitchen ticket will be displayed as they were ordered.
    • If this setting is enabled, (7) 'Print Seat Number' can be enabled to print the seat number beside each item on the kitchen ticket.
  • (8) 'Sort by Seat Number' sorts items on a kitchen ticket by seat number from the order. If enabled, this overrides all other sorting options.
    • If this setting is enabled, (9) 'Use Small Font' may be used to print the seat number in a smaller font.
  • (10) 'Print Previous Items' will reprint all items on an order when a new ticket is printed for an added item on that order.
    • Example: If an order originally prints a kitchen ticket with a pizza item, and another printable item is added to that order, a new kitchen ticket will print that includes both the pizza item and the new printable item.
  • (11) 'Print Additional Items' will print items from other kitchen printers on this kitchen printer as well.
    • If this setting is enabled, (12) 'Use Normal Font' changes the additional items to be printed in a smaller font than the items normally assigned to that kitchen printer.
    • Example: If a restaurant has a separate kitchen printer for their hot and cold items, enabling 'Print Additional Items' on the cold item printer will cause it to also include hot items on its kitchen tickets, while 'Use Normal Font' will cause the hot items to print on a smaller font on the cold printer's kitchen tickets only.
  • (13) 'Do Not Print Local Orders' will prevent the kitchen printer from printing orders sent from the station the printer is connected to.
    • Example: If a kitchen printer is connected to Station 3, and an order is sent from Station 3 that would normally print a kitchen ticket on that printer, the kitchen ticket will not print. Orders sent from any other station will print normally on that printer.
    • Keep in mind that kitchen printers are usually connected over the network to Station 1. Do not enable this setting if your store often sends orders from Station 1 (unless you do not need kitchen tickets when orders are sent from that station).
  • (14) 'Print Preselected Modifiers' will print any preselected modifier with 'Display Preselect in Kitchen' set in the Menu Editor's Preselected Modifiers subsection. (More Info Here) Each Modifier must have this setting enabled individually for it to appear when 'Print Preselected Modifiers' is enabled. If this setting is disabled, no preselected modifier will be printed on that kitchen printer.
    • Example: If 'Tomato Sauce' is a preselected modifier on your pizzas, but you want this modifier to print on kitchen tickets that include pizzas, you can enable 'Display Preselect in Kitchen' on that modifier and enable 'Print Preselected Modifiers' on any kitchen printer that prints pizzas.
  • (15) 'Print Recipes' will print an item's recipe after the item on a kitchen ticket.
    • Recipes are configured in the Inventory menu on your POS. See this guide for more information on configuring recipes.
  • (16) 'Show Default Preference' will always print the default preference alongside items on a kitchen ticket. This overrides the 'Show Default Preferences' setting on the main Menu Editor Configuration page.
    • Example: If a combo meal side default preference is Fries, but the menu's 'Show Default Preferences' setting is disabled, enabling the 'Show Default Preference' setting on the kitchen printer that prints that combo will cause the Fries preference to print alongside the item on that printer.
  • (17) 'Show Substituted Preference' will print a 'Sub' tag next to any substituted preference, and print the default preference alongside the altered choice. Disable this if you want the substituted preference to appear on its own without the default preference listed.
  • (18) 'Index Kitchen Ticket' will include an index number on each printed ticket for its order, as well as the total number of tickets for the order.
    • Example: If this setting is Enabled, and an order prints 3 kitchen tickets, each of these tickets will be marked '1 of 3', '2 of 3', and '3 of 3' respectively
  • (19) 'No Voids On Kitchen' will prevent the printer from printing any voided items on an order when an order is sent.
  • (20) 'Show Voids On Reprint' will print voided items on an order if the order's kitchen tickets are reprinted.
    • Example: If 'No Voids On Kitchen' and 'Show Voids On Reprint' are both checked, no voided items will appear on kitchen tickets when orders print, but the same voided items will print if the order's kitchen tickets are reprinted.
  • (21) 'Print One Item Per Ticket' will only print one menu item per kitchen ticket at this assigned printer, instead of printing all of an order's items assigned to this printer on the same kitchen ticket.
    • Example: If this setting is Enabled on a printer that would print a pizza item and a sandwich item, then the two items would each print on their own ticket. If Disabled, these items would print on the same ticket instead.
  • (22) 'Stage Print Only' will stop the printer from automatically printing its assigned items when an order is sent. Instead, the printer will now print its assigned items when a printing stage event is triggered. (See these articles on creating and editing Stage Events and Stage Sequences) This allows you to control when the tickets print independently based on order type.
    • Example: If this setting is Enabled, and stage event has been created that triggers kitchen ticket printing upon entering the 'Make' stage, then orders that include items assigned to this printer will only print kitchen tickets when the 'Make' stage is triggered by an order type's stage sequence.
    • This setting can be especially useful if your store wants to print prep tickets in multiple areas (ex: a separate printer for hot and cold items) but also wants a main summary ticket printed after the order is prepared to verify all included items. Simply set the stage events to print the hot/cold item tickets at the beginning of one stage and the event to print the main summary ticket at the end of this stage. This ensures that the summary ticket will only print after the included items have been bumped from their kitchen display. Please note that this setup requires a kitchen display to bump the order and trigger the stage transition.
  • (23) 'Print by Order Type' will restrict the printer to only print items from order types included on a list. After Enabling this setting, you will be able to choose the order types you want this printer to print by selecting the 'View Order Types' button and moving all desired order types to the right column.
    • Example: If this setting is Enabled, and the order types are restricted to only Dine-In and Carryout, then the printer will not print any items from any other order type (Delivery, 3rd Party, etc.), and will only print the categories it is assigned to for Dine-In and Carryout orders
  • (24) 'Print Multi Line Items' changes the item format on kitchen tickets so that the Size/Style, Item, and Modifiers all print on separate lines with indentation.
'Print Multi Line Items' Disabled:

'Print Multi Line Items' Enabled:

Remember: Once you are finished with updating a kitchen printer's settings, select the square 'Save' icon beside that printer's name (5), and select the 'Save Kitchen Printers' button at the bottom right of the window

Note: In order for these settings to take effect, you must wait 1-2 minutes after saving your changes in HUB, then restart Station 1. Keep in mind that your other stations will be unable to take orders while this station is down, so avoid making kitchen printer setting changes during peak hours.
