The Menu Control feature makes it easy to mark any out-of-stock items, modifiers, or preferences and upload these selections to your ordering platforms to avoid customer confusion and cancelled orders/refunds.
Click or Tap any Image in this article to see it full-size!
To access Menu Control, first select the 'Menu Control' option under 'Tools'
Note: For non-RM POS versions, this option is instead under the 'MGMT' tab:
After selecting this option, you'll be greeted with the 'Items' page on your default menu, with checkboxes beside each item/size/style that allows you to mark them out of stock
(1) First, select your desired Menu with the dropdown in the top left corner
- This will originally be set to your store's default menu, but you can use menu control on any of your store's active menus.
(2) If desired, filter by a specific group, size, style, or item to narrow the results in the lower table on the screen
- Important: Avoid using the Group filtering when setting out of stock Modifiers. More information provided later in this article.
(3) Use the radio buttons on the right to change between your menu's Items, Modifiers, and Preferences
(4) The buttons in the middle of the screen allow you to change between the Out of Stock, Item Price, and PLU sections:
- The main section, Out of Stock, allows you to mark items that are unavailable and need to be temporarily removed from the menu
-
The Item Price section shows you the base price of all items and modifiers on your menu
- For V3 Local (Menu Editor on POS), prices can be edited from this menu by click/tapping twice on the price and using a keyboard to enter a new value
- Important Note: If your store uses Restaurant Management (HUB) for menu updates, the price cannot be updated from this page - This page only provides a reference for current pricing, while the Menu Editor or Menu Manager is used for updating prices to a new value. See the article linked on this sentence for more information on updating prices in Menu Manager
-
The PLU section provides the Product LookUp (PLU) code for each menu item that has one assigned, and provides an easy reference for all the currently active PLUs on your menu
- Note: For Restaurant Management (HUB) versions of the POS, PLUs must be updated from Menu Manager. Please see this corresponding article for information on the Menu Settings page, which allows for adding and updating PLUs on a menu.
(5) The bottom table shows all of your menu items/modifiers/preferences, split into entries for each size/style that applies to each possible item
(6) To mark an entry as out of stock and remove it from ordering temporarily, select the checkbox next to that entry in the table
- If you want to remove the item from online ordering visibility, you must mark all sizes/styles of that item as 'Out of Stock'.
Once you have finished with updating your Out of Stock selections, select the 'Save' button, then use the 'Upload OOStock' button at the bottom right to commit your changes to your other stations and online menu.
Important Note on Group-Level Out Of Stock Modifiers
While Menu Control can mark modifiers out of stock within one group on the POS while leaving them in stock on another group, this function is not supported by Online Ordering.
Because of this limitation, marking a modifier out of stock within any Menu Group will also mark it out of stock in every other menu group.
- Attempting to filter to a group while in Modifier mode will trigger the following error message to remind you of this limitation:
To prevent online ordering issues, always avoid setting modifiers as 'Out of Stock' when filtering Menu Control to a specific menu group.
- If you see the above error while using Menu Control, don't set any out of stock modifiers until you change the 'Group' dropdown filter back to 'All'
Once you have saved an Out of Stock item, that item will appear with an 'X' icon over it in the order entry screen:
